My Story

My journey into the field of preservation was pretty atypical. With an undergraduate degree and background focused in post-production and video marketing, I realized how much I missed the interior design and architectural history classes I took as part of my undergraduate minor. After graduating, I found myself spending most of my free time (when I wasn’t making commercials for Meta) at historically and architecturally significant sites, volunteering and eventually interning with the National Park Service at both the park and regional levels before entering my graduate program.

Now, I love many aspects of this field, from conducting property research for National Register nominations to engaging the public through the creation of promotional preservation content in both written and video formats, to conducting historic resource surveys and condition assessments in the field. Plus, with my background in photography, video, and animation, I have an appreciation for the digitization of historic sites and how tools like laser scanning and photogrammetry enable documentation like never before. I’m very happy to say I’ve been able to turn what I love into what I do every day.
