Dr. Banfield Medical Office, Paint Finish Analysis
Date
April 2023
Location
Dr. Banfield Medical Office (Community Music Center of Houston) Houston, Texas
Type
Group Research and Report, Academic Work
As part of the Conservation: Lab Methods course taught by Izabella Nuckels at UT Austin, Kaylee contributed to a collaborative historic finish analysis report for the Community Music Center of Houston, formerly the MD Banfield Office, located in Houston’s historic Third Ward and designed by renowned Texas architect John S. Chase.
Kaylee assisted in collecting paint samples from the building’s exterior façade, embedding them in resin, and analyzing the layers under a microscope to identify the original paint scheme. While the team jointly developed the report and its findings, Kaylee independently wrote the architectural description and the biography of John S. Chase, and served as project manager for compiling the final report. The completed document was delivered to the client in support of an upcoming rehabilitation project.
